William Wade Straw or as friends known him as “Chips” was born on November 15th 1952 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Son of Jean Straw and late Robert Straw, and brother of Robert Straw(Patricia). William graduated Wilkinsburg High School and later on got his associates degree from Robert Morris University and his BA from Edinboro University. After college in his earlier years he worked in management for the HESS Oil Company in the late 1970s. Later on he became a private investigator for 25 years and married Lisa Griffin Straw, they were married for 28 years.
William valued his time and effort into sports such baseball, hockey, and most importantly football in which he played from little league all through high school. In his later years he found passion in recreational basketball and golfing with fellow associates and friends, even making time traveling to Hawaii and Costa Rica. William also favored old school Blues and R&B as well as going to known Blues celebrations such as the Pittsburgh Blues and Roots festival with close friends and his oldest son Wade.
On May 4th 2024 William passed away peacefully in his sleep, leaving behind memories, wisdom, and great stories for his two sons Wade and Wyatt to spread to the many generations to come.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Thursday May 16, 2024 at the Findlay C. Wylie Funeral Home 11311 Frankstown Road, Penn Hills 15235. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am at the funeral home Friday May 17, 2024.
Burial in Homewood Cemetery.
