Tommy “Hard Guy” Larkin, 62, formerly of Penn Hills, suddenly passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2023. Born April 6, 1961, he is the son of the late Francis X. Jr and Mary Larkin. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brothers Kevin and James “Jimmy” Larkin and his sister Mary Ellen Fitzpatrick. He is survived by his son Tyler James Larkin of Trafford; his mother Mary Larkin of Pittsburgh; his brothers and sisters, Barbara Amorose and her husband Vincent “Vinnie” of Shaler, Francis X. III “Frankie” Larkin and his wife Meg of Wheeling, WV, Diane “Priss” Kosalec and her husband Thomas “TK” of Etna, William “Bill” Larkin of Colorado Springs, CO, Lynn Patterson and her husband Lenny of Valencia and his brother in law, Ken Fitzpatrick of Shaler. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Tommy grew up on Dorothy Drive where he was a vibrant kid and become a cherished neighbor. He attended St. Bartholomew Catholic school and graduated in 1973 from Penn Hills High School. All who knew him knew that music was his passion and there was no happier place he could be than a jam session playing his guitars and singing his heart out with family, friends and even strangers. Once you met Tommy you were never a stranger again, he had a heart of gold and remembered everyone he interacted with in his life, likely had a souvenir and story of how you met and was always there to help you however he could. He held many jobs in the music industry and shared amazing stories of the hundreds of bands and singers he met as a personal runner over the years. He had no greater pride than the many opportunities he had to jam with Tyler and share their love for music. Tommy cared for animals and was a life-long vegan with a never-ending love for his favorite pizza joint Della Sala’s. He moved with his mother in 2006 to Aspinwall and they became inseparable while he ensured she was always safe and smiling. Tommy’s love of the earth, musical talent and carefree spirit will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him.
