Phyllis Loose Obituary

Phyllis Rae “Nana” Loose, age 77, passed away February 24, 2024, at home with her family. Ms. Loose was born October 11, 1946, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Charles and Mary (McGowan) Oliver. They would relocate to New Jersey in 1983, and later settle in Florida to be near family. Surviving is her loving husband Richard of 57 years, one son Richard W. Loose Jr (Joyce) of Orlando Fl, one daughter Patricia Brooks (Chris) of Monticello Fl., one sister Mary Lou (Oliver) Packer of Pittsburgh Pa, four grandsons (Brannon Brooks, Brandon Brooks, Connor Loose, and Corey Brooks), one granddaughter (Kayla Brooks), numerous cousins who were close as sisters, and beloved dog, Muffy.

After graduating high school, Phyllis worked at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh where she met Richard W. Loose. They were married in Pittsburgh October 15th, 1966, and would go on to build a beautiful life together. Phyllis adored creating the perfect home for her family, excelled in cooking / baking, and was multi-talented in various artistic crafts from constructing costumes for her grandchildren to crocheting countless blankets for all occasions. She used her creativity and talents to shower her friends, family and even acquaintances with loving gifts. Although she relocated away from Pittsburgh, she was an avid Steelers fan for life, and you’d better stay away from her terrible towel at game times!

One of Phyllis’ most treasured roles in life was being “Nana” to her grandchildren, and dog-mom to Murphy, who predeceased her, and Muffy, who survives. Being the matriarch of her family, holidays were much bigger and brighter because of her attention to detail and thoughtfulness of others. One of Phyllis’ many gifts were to spoil her friends and family with homemade goods and gifts and was ever-present for those she loved. She was also an active member of Lafayette Presbyterian Church where she served many years as a Deacon and Choir member and would often take food to others during their times of need.

In lieu of flowers, you may send charitable contributions in memory of Ms. Loose to Lafayette Presbyterian Church 4220 Mahan Drive, Tallahassee Fl 32308
