Lewis R. “Buzzy” Sylvester of Plum, Pennsylvania passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022, at the age of 82. Buzzy died peacefully at his home with his beloved wife of 50 years, Nancy, by his side.
Buzzy was born in Universal, PA on August 6, 1939, to Louis Sylvester and Julia Paluselli. After graduating from Penn Hills High School in 1957, he worked at “Shiek’s Place”, his parents’ bar, which was one of the first bars with a liquor license post prohibition. He was drafted into the Army for 2 years. He spent his younger years riding motorcycles, driving his Cadillac convertible, and hanging out with his cousins and friends. He married Nancy Crusan, also from Penn Hills, in July of 1971. Buzzy enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and cutting the grass on his riding lawn mower. He was a proud father and grandfather. He and Nancy continued to operate Shiek’s until December of 2021, when they finally retired. Three months after retirement, he started his fight against his diagnosis with glioblastoma.
Buzzy is survived by wife Nancy, daughters Michele (Tim) Hanks and Diana (Paul) Jacoby, and grandchildren Abigail Hanks, Katelyn Hanks, Addison Jacoby, and Zachary Jacoby. He is also survived by his sister Arlene Shelby. Preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Julia Sylvester, and grandson Austin Jacoby.
