Lawrence “Spanky” Kish, 71, of Penn Hills, passed away on March 22, 2024, after a courageous battle with Stomach Cancer.
Husband of Julie Kish. Father of Thaddeus (Anya), Joshua, of California and proceeded by his mother “Key”, daughter Amber and sister Francis Marcus. Brother to Patrica Sadler of Florida, Stepfather of Heather Townsend of Pittsburgh, Grandfather of Hayley, Anthony, Parker and Ariana of Pittsburgh, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Spanky was born in Braddock and raised in Homestead where he attended Catholic Church and served as an altar boy. In his early years, he left high school to enlist in the United States Navy at age 17. After proudly serving, he worked in the Steel Mill and as a concrete worker. Spanky was also an entrepreneur. Along with his business partner, he had a clothing boutique, a bicycle store, and he once owned a pool hall. He established LJ Kish Construction, operating as a General Contractor and Cabinet maker for over 40 years, perpetually exuding pride in his craftsmanship.
Throughout his career, he constantly perfected his skills through continued education. While in the military, he finished his high schooling in Imperial Beach, California. He ultimately earned his associates degree in Information Systems at night school later in life, and he was a self-taught man, very well read.
Spanky found joy in traveling, shooting dice, hunting, fine dining and good spirits. He enjoyed woodworking and technology. He never found a problem he didn’t like. Spanky found amusement in Scottish accents; he enjoyed dancing, motorcycles, cars and his Steelers.
He appreciated honesty and integrity. He was selfless, hardworking, and he loved a good conversation. Above all, Spanky valued his beloved family and friends.
Friends and family will be received at Findlay C. Wylie Funeral Home, Inc., 11311 Frankstown Road, Penn Hills, from 1:00-2:30 on Saturday, March 30, 2024. Blessing Service will follow at 2:30-3:00.
