George Bollinger Obituary

George Bollinger

May 1, 1944 – December 22, 2022

George Arthur Bollinger, 78, formerly of Penn Hills, passed away Thursday evening after battling several long-term health issues.  He was born on May 1, 1944, to Olive and George Bollinger, Sr., and grew up in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania.  He heroically worked as a Wilkinsburg fireman for thirty-five years.  He was also a veteran of the United States Army Reserves.  Growing up, George was an all-star athlete in both baseball and football.  He continued to love sports throughout his life, coaching his daughters’ softball teams and never missing a Pittsburgh Steelers game.  He married the love of his life, Mary Ann Starry on August 30, 1969, to whom he was happily married for 32 years until her untimely passing in 2002.  Together, they had two daughters, Tara and Angie, and several very loved Basset Hounds.  George also had three nephews, Erik Carlson, Bruce Carlson, and Kirk Taylor that he considered his own sons and shared many good times with them throughout his life.  George always enjoyed a good laugh and loved telling jokes and playing pranks on people.  He and his wife Mary Ann enjoyed entertaining their friends and family, and always had an open door to everyone.  George was lucky to develop lifelong friendships with his fellow firefighters, and their families as well.  George loved Basset Hounds, and always had one by his side.  Praying he is reunited with his loving wife he missed so much, surrounded by all their loyal dogs, finding peace and happiness together for eternity.  George leaves behind his daughter Tara and her husband Mark Pangonis, their three daughters Eva, Lyla, and Ellie, his daughter Angie Bollinger, sister Clara Taylor, and nephews Erik Carlson, Bruce Carlson, Kirk Taylor, and their families, and the incredible staff at Maple Valley Personal Care home who have become like family to George and his family over the past several years.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, December 28th from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, with a Service to follow at 1:00 pm at the Findlay C. Wylie Funeral Home, Inc., 11311 Frankstown Road, Penn Hills.
