Elmer Joseph Darak
Elmer Joseph Darak, 98, of Hollidaysburg Veteran Home, formerly of Penn Hills passed away Saturday October 9, 2021.
Beloved Father of Ronald J. Darak (Diana), Elaine Flick, and late Daryl J. Darak; beloved husband of the late Lucy Fratangelo Darak; loving grandfather of Bryan and Scott Flick, Ronald Darak II and Nicole Darak Urgitus; great grandfather of Trey, Dylan, Michael, and Gianna; brother of the late Frank Darak and late Pauline Ocel; son of the late Michael Darak and Mary Grancapi Darak.
Elmer was a Veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II in Normandy, northern France, Rhineland, and central Europe. He was awarded four Bronze Stars and the Victory Medal. He was a member of the Penn Hills American Legion. Elmer had a passion for baseball. In the Military, he played in the Army All Star Game in 1945 in Brussels Belguim. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Amateur Softball Umpire Association. He coached and managed baseball teams within the Little League and American Legion for many years. He also officiated and refereed high school basketball.
