Edward M. Shaffer, Sr.

Age 79, of Penn Hills, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2022.  Born on November 3, 1942.  Son of the late Robert and Henrietta Shaffer.  Husband of Mary Jean (Trozzo) Shaffer.  Brother of the late Margaret (Russell) Sutton and the late Richard (Jackie) Kingan.  Uncle of many nieces and nephews.  Father of Edward Jr. (Gina) Shaffer, Lisa Marie (Ryan Catello), Robert L. (Shannon) Shaffer.  Dear grandfather of Tyler (Madaline), Marisa, Trey, Travis, Ryan, Madelyn, Kendall, Dominic, Payton, and Gianna.  Soon, Ed would have been a great-grandfather to Tyler and Madaline Shaffer’s baby.

After graduation from Central Catholic High School, Ed was drafted into the United States Army and fought in Vietnam.  He was a sharpshooter and was awarded a Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and National Defense Service Medal.

Ed spent many, many years coaching Penn Hills Youth Baseball.  He loved his Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates.  He was an avid golfer and enjoyed his golf trips, especially Myrtle Beach.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at Findlay C. Wylie Funeral Home, Inc.,11311 Frankstown Road, Penn Hills, PA 15235 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.  Blessing Service held at funeral home 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2022.  Burial following at Mt. Hope Cemetery on Frankstown Road in Penn Hills.
